Research has shown that women are the number one growth group in golf. More women are coming to the game of golf, playing the game, learning the game, and enjoying the game. This trend is happening for a number of reasons. One reason, more women are looking to golf for business reasons, golf is the game of business, lots of time to discuss business, before, during, and after the game. Secondly, women have more disposable income now. Also, it's a game that can be taken up later in life and played for a lifetime. It doesn't put an as heavy demand on the body or have the possibility of injury like some other activities that require more strenuous efforts, like tennis, squash, and baseball, to name a few.
So this is all good news for women's golf, right? Not so fast.
The number one group departing golf is sadly, also women. "Why," you ask?
Women are leaving because of frustration, they're not having success with the game. This inevitably will make the experience unsatisfying and not enjoyable. Very few people continue with activities that aren't enjoyable.
So what's holding you back? Not sure how to start. I get it, on the surface, it can be a bit overwhelming. One reason, golf is inherently and instinctively counter-intuitive. You just need some education and a clear plan to follow. A supportive coaching community where you can learn with others of a similar skill set. Women are often receiving poor (unqualified) help. One common source, the men in their lives, sorry guys, often a recipe for argument and fights, that's no fun. Possibly help is being offered by other golfers but I wouldn't recommend getting driving lessons from people that regularly get into car accidents. But the saddest for me as a coach is seeing motivated women getting poor help from golf coaches that don't understand that there needs to be a different and therefore a better approach to coaching women. This is not a sexist statement, it's a statement of fact. Women have different physiological make-ups, certain muscle groups are strong comparatively with men, and others are not. This difference requires an understanding, knowledge, and approach to yield the best results.
